About us
Merlin Housing Society was formed in 2007 to accept the transfer of around 8,000 properties from South Gloucestershire Council, following a vote in support of transfer by tenants in 2006.
We are a not-for-profit organisation and the largest social housing provider in South Gloucestershire. As of 31 December 2008 we owned: 6,372 general needs properties, 1,413 sheltered properties, 37 extra care, 48 hostel properties, 39 shared ownership and 466 leasehold properties. We also held 2,635 garages and 49 shops. Read our Asset Management Strategy for more information.
Since the transfer have been working in partnership with the council, other agencies and the wider community to provide quality housing and related services for local residents. Like all housing associations we are regulated by the Tenant Services Authority and the Homes and Community Agency.
Our main office is in Chipping Sodbury, which also serves as one of our three area housing offices. We also have housing offices in Cadbury Heath and Patchway, as well as our works depot in Almondsbury.
Our vision is to be a first class provider of affordable housing and related services for communities across South Gloucestershire with residents at the heart of all that we do. Being a not-for-profit organisation means that any money we make is invested in improving our housing stock and the communities in which our residents live.
We are committed to improving the services we provide to our residents and following the transfer we have embarked on a £70m programme to make sure our properties meet the Decent Homes Standard by the end of 2010. We have also completed reviews of how we deliver our housing and sheltered services in order to provide a better service to residents.
