Rok and Merlin celebrate 1000th kitchen
29 Oct 2009
Merlin Housing Society and partner Rok today installed their 1,000th kitchen as part of the housing association’s £70 million Major Works programme to upgrade former council homes.
To celebrate the landmark staff from Rok and Merlin surprised the recipient of the kitchen, Warmley resident June Noble, with a big bunch of flowers and a return visit from staff who worked on at her home.
Merlin Resident Mrs Noble said “The work was very good. Everything was left clean and tidy and the workmen were very nice – they even made me cups of tea. I enjoyed having them around. My new kitchen is lovely and light and has made a real difference”.
Staff from Rok and Merlin presented her with a big bunch of flowers in recognition of this impressive achievement.
Rok is one of two contractors who – along with Merlin’s own Merlin Works department – are undertaking a five year major programme of planned repairs and improvements to Merlin Housing Society’s 8,000 homes across South Gloucestershire.
Merlin’s Head of Property Services Mark Haines said: “Our partnership with Rok is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to have reached this milestone in the project.”
Rok’s Area Leader Adrian Marshman said: “We are delighted to have touched the lives of so many residents across South Gloucestershire therefore making a real difference to the local communities in which we live and work. This is a fantastic example of true partnership working.”
During the past two-and-a-half years Merlin’s Decent Homes Programme has seen the installation of 3,260 new kitchens, 2,240 new bathrooms, and 1,980 new heating systems.
