Award-winning in-house contractor gets coveted ISO9001 award

14 Oct 2011

Merlin’s award winning in house contractor, Merlin Works, has received a coveted ISO9001:2008 award for the processes that control its repairs and maintenance service for customers.

Winston Williams, Managing Director of Merlin Works said: “This means our residents can now be sure of a proven, tested, externally audited system for producing continual improvements to the services the organisation delivers.“

The accreditation was awarded following the implementation of a Quality Management System, with detailed procedures for all areas of Merlin Works.

The process was audited in two stages – the first being an off site review of documents, the second being an intensive four day on site visit where various managers and supervisors were interviewed to ensure procedures were being followed.

ISO9001:2008 is a quality management standard which is recognised worldwide and operates across all business sectors.  An organisation can benefit from the standard through improved customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continual improvement.

Implementing ISO9001:2008 allows the business to improve efficiency and productivity, reduce waste and reduce complaints.  It is rigorously enforced by independent, external audit on a 6 monthly/annual basis to ensure continued compliance with a full reassessment after 3 years.

Last year, Merlin Works was the first direct labour organisation to win a new national award.

The Housing Quality Network Accredit: DLO award was set up to showcase organisations that are providing an excellent service in the social housing sector. Recipients are acknowledged as being efficient, effective and economic companies that provide an excellent service to tenants and residents, as well as providing value for money services.
