Merlin asks local residents to name new development
10 Jun 2010
Merlin Housing Society has started work on its first housing development and is asking residents to name it.
By the end of the year, residents will be moving into ten new flats in two brand new buildings in High Street, Kingswood. Halsall Construction started work to demolish the existing building last month and will begin construction of the new buildings in the coming weeks. Members of the Kings Forest Community Action Group recently had a chance to see the work so far and view the plans for the new homes.
Now Merlin is asking local residents to come up with names for the two new buildings. The winners will be the ones that get the most votes from Merlin residents at their conference in September.
“We want the first new homes we build to signify something special for us as an organisation and for the residents we serve,” said Chief Executive Ian Matthews.
“Kingswood has had a very interesting past so maybe people will look there for inspiration? I can’t wait to see what they come up with!”
The people who suggest the winning names will be invited back in December to perform the official opening of the buildings.
As well as ten new homes the development also includes a new area housing office. Last year residents voted overwhelmingly in favour of moving the existing Kingswood office from Cadbury Heath back to Kingswood.
The High Street development, is just the start for Merlin’s building plans. Over the next four years, it plans to build 100 new homes.
Residents can send their suggestions for the names for the buildings to communications@merlinhs.co.uk or to Communications Team, Building 2, Riverside Court, Bowling Hill, Chipping Sodbury, Bristol, BS37 6JX.
