Gas servicing
The law says we must inspect gas heating appliances in your home every year. We do this for your safety and security and to reduce the chance of things breaking down when you and your family most need it.
If you have a gas heating appliance that you don’t think has been serviced or checked within the last 12 months, or you’d like to re-arrange a gas servicing appointment that we’ve sent you, please contact us. You can find out more about gas servicing here.
If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak:
- contact the National Grid on 0800 111 999
- use a phone outside of your home. Using a phone inside, even a mobile, could spark an explosion
- put out all flames, turn off the gas and open windows
- don't smoke or switch anything electrical on or off until the problem is fixed.
How we check your gas appliances
PH Jones is the contractor who carries out all our gas servicing and repairs work. A few weeks before the work is scheduled, we’ll write to let you know when someone will be coming to see you. If the time or date isn’t convenient let us know as soon as possible to rearrange the visit. The inspection and service normally takes about 45 minutes, depending on how many gas appliances there are to check.
What will happen if I refuse to have my heating inspected?
We will make every effort to enable this work to be carried out this can include an evening or weekend appointment if required. However if you refuse to allow us access to your property, we will take court action to allow us to enter your home. This will include seeking a repossession order and charging you up to £3,000 for the cost of forcing us to go to court. The safety of you and your family and also that of your neighbours is at risk if appliances are not maintained in good working order.
