Our sheltered residents have been actively making a difference with us for more than ten years. In 2008 the north and south sheltered groups merged to form The Sheltered Experience.
This new larger group is made up of representatives from all our 51 sheltered schemes and aims to give our sheltered residents a strong voice and a place to air their views.
The Sheltered Experience meets every eight/nine weeks at the Ridgewood Centre in Yate and details of all its meetings are publicised at all our schemes. It discusses a range of subjects of importance to older people, including the implementation of the sheltered housing review, and our policies and service standards.
Two representatives sit on the Residents’ Forum and report back to the group at each meeting. In addition, one representative attends the Central Control Group which discusses the performance of the alarm system in sheltered schemes, including response times and the number of call outs. All Sheltered Experience representatives are responsible for reporting back to their sheltered schemes on matters discussed at meetings.
The Sheltered Experience will be drawing up an action plan for the next financial year setting out what it hopes to achieve.
