Our efforts to improve the energy efficiency of our homes were recognised last week at an awards ceremony.
We were highly commended in the regional landlord of the year category in the South West Energy Efficiency & Health Homes Awards in Exeter. Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is one of our Corporate Plan goals and over the past two years we’ve carried out work to hundreds of homes to achieve this. And although we narrowly missed out on winning the award, which was won by Stonewater, we’re continuing to carry out work to improve our homes and customers lives.
Head of Property Investment Richard Hopkins said: “We’re pleased to have been recognised for our work to improve the quality of our homes and the lives of our customers. Over the next two years our goal is to improve the SAP energy rating of our homes to an average of 70. We’ll be doing this by fitting insulation to even more homes, installing new energy efficient heating systems and providing more homes with double glazed windows.”
Over the past year we’ve replaced 93 gas boilers, with more energy efficient boilers, of which we’ve installed brand new heating systems to 26 homes. We’ve installed cavity wall insulation in 33 traditional homes and 29 have had loft insulation upgraded and have a similar programme underway this year. And for our non-traditional properties, our ongoing refurbishment programme continues to fit external insulation to homes to make them warmer.
We’ve also installed double glazing at 150 homes as part of our affordable warmth strategy and have plans to fit windows at a further 90 homes this year.
