We're working in partnership with Barratt Homes to build 65 homes on the site of the former St Matthias College in Fishponds.
The development is a mixture of 50 rented properties and 15 shared ownership properties. The first four shared ownership properties were made available in May 2016. Details about the other shared ownership properties will be available soon.
To date, 36 homes have been completed. The remaining homes are due to be ready in a number of phases between up to 2020.
Number of properties: 65
Start on site: 2015
Completion: 2016 - 2020
Project cost: £13m
We've announced ambitious plans to increase our home building programme by 250% over the next 12 months.
We're already on site building nearly 100 homes with developers such as Lovell and Barratt Homes and have revealed ambitious plans to start work on another 350 new homes during the next 12 months. It’s a big change from just three years ago when we began our development programme and completed 24 properties.
Head of Development Amanda Swann said: “Last year we started work on 100 new homes and completed 79. This year, we’re aiming much higher and will be starting work to build 350 much-needed affordable homes and to complete more than 130. It’s a huge increase but shows the scale of our ambitions. And our plans for the future are even bigger; by 2019 we want to be completing 300 new homes every year.
“There is a housing crisis in our area, with house prices around nine times average earnings. It means people are finding it increasingly difficult to own their own home, as they’re being priced out. Thousands of people have registered for affordable rented housing locally. We’re committed to helping meet this demand and to providing even more local people with the homes that they need.
“We’re particularly keen to increase the number of shared ownership properties we’re developing. In the past year, we had huge demand for the homes we’ve already sold, and we expect this will be a real growth area for us going forward.”
Over the past year we've completed developments in Bristol, Chipping Sodbury, Filton and Staple Hill. Our biggest current development is at the former St Matthias College in Fishponds in Bristol. Sixty-five new homes are being built on the site in partnership with Barratt Homes, with 15 of them available for shared ownership.
We're also nearing completion on 39 new homes built as part of our non-traditional housing redevelopment programme in partnership with Lovell. Work is due to start on the next 72 homes in a few months’ time. These homes are being built with part of £5m of funding we secured from the Homes and Communities Agency.
By 2019 we want to be building 300 new homes every year.
