Sixteen families have received an early Christmas present with the news that they’ll be moving into Merlin’s newest development in Filton.
The brand new homes, on the site of Merlin’s former Newleaze House supported housing scheme are nearing completion and residents will be moving in early next year. And earlier this month they were all invited to an event where they had a chance to meet their new neighbours and learn about their new homes and ask questions.
Community Insight & Investment Officer Charlotte Galling said: “We want Roycroft Road to be a friendly place to live from the day the first people move in. This was a great opportunity to get everyone together and for them all to meet each other before they moved in. It was fantastic to see people introducing themselves to their neighbours and getting to know them.
"It was also a chance for all of them to learn about their new homes and speak to some of our experts. We provided them with information about the heating systems, looking after the floowing and how important it is to ventilate their new home to prevent damp and mould problems.
“We’re really pleased with the way it went and will look at holding similar events when we complete other developments.”
One resident due to move into one of the new properties said “I think it was a good, informative event. Staff answered everything and I’m really pleased with what’s been shown and said today.”
The £2m development is a mix of two and three bedroom houses and six one and two bedroom flats and is part-funded by a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.
The 16 properties being built at Roycroft Road are among more than 100 new homes being built by Merlin at the moment. The housing association is aiming to increase its home building programme to be developing at least 300 properties every year by 2019.
