Introduced 12 months ago to deliver low cost garden maintenance to elderly customers or those with a disability, the service has completed nearly 1,300 cuts to almost 100 paying customers, and saved £98,000.
And customers are delighted with the results. One customer said: “Dad is very poorly right now. It is a god send the chaps can come out and deliver a first class service. Special thanks to the young gentleman who regularly cuts for dad, he is brilliant. Please pass this on”. Another said “I could not have anyone better than the cutter I've had this year, always left clean and tidy, Very friendly… well done.”
The scheme is part of the Merlin Extra offer and Team Leader Rob Talbot is now looking to expand and test new paid for services with other customer groups.
He said: "Customers in our independent living schemes have been able to use our Handyperson service for a while and it's been a success, so we've rolled it out to our most vulnerable customers in general needs accommodation at £20 per hour.
"We've also started a pendant service for some of our customers in our independent living schemes. These customers have standalone monitoring system in their homes that would normally monitor just their smoke alarms. We have been able to link these systems to a pendant to help give piece of mind to the customer in cases of emergencies, this service cost just £3.50 per week and can truly be a life saver."
